SMU Racings’ Matt Hanson and Leigh Wells are a team on a mission; to defend their 2012 Aus #1 crown – and they’ve started their 2013 campaign in top form.
A fourth fastest finish in today’s prologue – 9 minutes 02:312 seconds, backed up with a third outright finish in the top ten shoot out, gave the #Aus1 Snap SMU Racing Jimco the start to the weekend of off road racing they were hoping for.
With Saturday’s racing comprising one competitive lap of the 85km track, Matt Hanson with Leigh Wells in the navigator’s seat finished the day in third outright, a mere 6 seconds behind returning multiple champion Shannon Rentsch.
Hanson commented post-race that he was not happy with his lap. “The first half was good, but the second half, well, not so good.” After overshooting a corner in the dust, the team regrouped to secure the third outright and will be chasing down Rhodes and Rentsch as the off road racing fires up tomorrow at Hyden.
